We know our residents take pride in where they live and so do we. Everyone wants to enjoy a clean, safe, and pleasant environment, and we can all play a part in keeping it that way.

If you’ve got large household items you no longer need, such as old furniture, white goods, or mattresses, there are proper and convenient ways to dispose of them without leaving them outside. Fly-tipping not only spoils the appearance of our neighbourhoods but also leads to unnecessary clean-up costs that are ultimately reflected in residents’ service charges. By disposing of waste responsibly, we can all help maintain a community we’re proud to call home.

Here’s what you can do instead of fly-tipping:

  • Take items to a nearby recycling centre (household waste sites).
  • Use a licensed waste carrier if hiring someone privately and always ask to see their registration.
  • Book a bulky waste collection through your local council. These are often free or low-cost.
  • Donate usable items to local charities or reuse services – many even collect for free.

Fly-tipping is illegal and it affects everyone

Fly-tipping means dumping rubbish where it doesn’t belong, such as next to bins, in communal areas, or on estate land. It’s not only antisocial, but it’s also against the law.

At GCHA, we take this seriously. We work closely with local councils and enforcement teams to identify who is responsible. This can include:

  • Reviewing CCTV footage
  • Speaking to local residents and witnesses
  • Checking for any identifying evidence left in the waste

If we find out who has dumped items, we’ll instigate our Recharge Policy, meaning the full cost of removal will be charged back to that resident. In some cases, enforcement action may also be taken by the council.

We know it’s only a small number of people who cause this but unfortunately, it impacts the whole community. It spoils the appearance of your estate and diverts money that could be used for community improvements or services.
