Domestic abuse can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, disability, race, religion, sexual orientation or background. Abuse is not always physical and can take many different forms, including:
- Emotional or psychological abuse
- Controlling or coercive behaviour
- Threats or intimidation
- Financial abuse
- Sexual abuse
- Physical violence
Domestic abuse can happen to anyone, and support is available.
If you are in immediate danger
Always call 999 in an emergency.
If you are unable to speak, press 55 when prompted. This lets the operator know it is a genuine emergency and help will be sent.
Support available in Kent and Gravesham
There are a number of organisations across Kent and Gravesham that provide confidential advice, information and support for people experiencing domestic abuse.
Kent Police
Kent Police can provide support and advice, help you report domestic abuse, and provide information about Clare’s Law (Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme).
Clare’s Law allows someone to ask the police if their partner has a history of domestic abuse or violence.

KIDAS provides flexible support for individuals and families experiencing domestic abuse across Kent. Their services focus on early intervention, safety and helping people maintain independence.
