New Information Rights for Social Housing Residents

From October 2026, social housing residents will benefit from new rights under the Social Tenant Access to Information Requirements (STAIRs).

STAIRs is designed to make sure social landlords are open, transparent and accountable to their residents, making it easier for you to find information about your home and the services you receive

What does STAIRs mean for you?

Under the new requirements, GCHA will make more information available about how we manage our homes and services.

This will help residents better understand the services we provide, how we are performing and the decisions that affect their homes and communities.

Information available may include:

  • Information about our key services
  • Performance information and resident satisfaction results
  • Information about complaints and service improvements
  • Key policies and strategies

When will the changes happen?

From 1 October 2026

GCHA will make key information about how we manage our homes and services more easily available to residents through our website.

From 1 April 2027

Residents will be able to request certain information about the management of their homes and housing services, where GCHA already holds that information.

Why is this important?

STAIRs is about giving residents greater transparency and helping to build trust between residents and their landlord.

It will support:

  • Better communication
  • Greater accountability
  • More openness about how decisions are made
  • Improved resident involvement
  • A better understanding of how services are delivered

Your right to information

The new requirements will help you to:

  • Access information about how your home and services are managed
  • Better understand how decisions are made
  • Receive clear and accessible information
  • Hold GCHA accountable for the services we provide
  • Stay informed about matters affecting your tenancy and community

Our commitment to transparency

At GCHA, we support the principles of openness and transparency and are preparing for the introduction of STAIRs.

We will continue to publish information about our services and performance, listen to resident feedback and explain how that feedback helps shape our decisions.

We want every resident to feel informed, involved and confident that their voice matters.
